About Us
The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum (FOGRA) is a volunteer organization committed to preserving & developing the Thielke Arboretum in Glen Rock. The Arboretum property is owned by the town, but managed by FOGRA.
The Arboretum is a great place to enjoy nature close to home. Over 170 species of trees & shrubs have been identified. The Arboretum, a Certified Wildlife Habitat, is also home to a wide variety of birds, butterflies & other animals.
The Arboretum is alive & always changing - walk the nature trail and discover something new with every visit!
FOGRA Mission Statement
Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum, Inc.(FOGRA) is committed to preserving, developing and insuring the continued existence of the Glen Rock Arboretum, a wetlands woodland.
We are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of plants as well as providing a natural haven for small animals, amphibians, birds and beneficial insects.
We strive to provide an arboretum with gardens that are a source of community pride, to be used and enjoyed by all, providing both an educational resource and a positive aesthetic experience.
A BRIEF HISTORY
1915 Dr. Fred Morris, an avid amateur horticulturist, begins to purchase acreage.
1954 Borough of Glen Rock purchases 11+acres to deter development for $44,000.00
1956 Vacant house, victim of vandals, burned by Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department as an exercise.
1959 Area declared a municipal park
1964 At the urging of Garden Club Members, the park was named “Glen Rock Arboretum”
1986 First major restoration of the pond
1987 “Constitution Walk” formed with planting the state trees of the thirteen original states.
1996 Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum, Inc. an all volunteer organization took on the challenge of developing this wetlands habitat, managing the arboretum for the enjoyment and as a resource for residents, students and friends

Friends of the Arboretum, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit corporation, which has 501(c)3 tax status with the Internal Revenue Service. All gifts to FOGRA are tax deductable to the full extent of the law.
